NeoOffice draws highlighted text the same as Apple’s Safari and TextEdit applications. Also, by selecting NeoOffice’s “Browse All Versions” menu, you will be able to restore any of the previous versions of your document in Apple’s document version browser.

The NeoOffice engineers have implemented this Mac feature and saving a file will automatically keep a copy of your document before any changes are saved. Using this feature, saving a document causes Mac to keep a copy of your document before any changes are saved so that you can restore any of the previous versions of your document. In OS X Lion, Apple added a feature called Versions that allows applications to save and restore previous versions of your document. File > Browse All Versions menu to restore previous versions of your documents The screen snapshot to the right shows the NeoOffice > Open at Launch menu with Calc set as the document type to open at launch. Also, users can select the “- None -” menu item to only show the Mac menubar when NeoOffice is launched. When a user selects one of the document types listed in this menu, NeoOffice will open the selected document type the next time that you launch it. However, many of our users have requested that we provide an easy way to make a different document type such as Calc or Impress open when NeoOffice is launched so we have added the NeoOffice > Open at Launch menu. By default, NeoOffice opens a Writer document when launched.

The NeoOffice > Open at Launch menu allows you to choose which type of document to open when NeoOffice is launched. Open at Launch menu to open Calc or Impress instead of Writer at launch The NeoOffice engineers have implemented this Mac feature and NeoOffice will automatically use the macOS Dark Mode colors when you enable macOS Dark Mode. It’s neither controversial nor unique to suggest that it's time to pass the torch. In macOS Mojave, Apple added native Dark Mode. It points out several things that are not really in dispute (including the first post in this thread) - that LibreOffice is an active project and OpenOffice hasn’t been active for some time now. I recommend actually reading the letter from TDF.

Also, the suggestion that LO gets code from Apache but not the other way around supposes that Apache has contributed much useful code (15,000 code commits vs. In addition to their standard hyperbole (they like to work ALL CAPS and “f*ck” into their headlines), it's substantively a bit of a whiff as the article conveniently brushes over the fact that OO has had security issues that went unfixed for months (as noted in the first post in this thread). I don't think OpenOffice is a bad program nor do I want to push people off of using it, but I took issue with the Register article. LibreOffice rains on OpenOffice's 20th anniversary parade, tells rival project to 'do the right thing' and die Please break direct links to knock-off versions as I've done above to avoid giving them any SEO benefit.

Where are ooo-build, Go-oo and Oracle? I've seen no references to those programs anywhere other than on the Wikipedia page: en-us/p/trio-office-word-slide-spreadsheet-pdf-compatible/
#NEOOFFICE VS LIBREOFFICE LICENSE#
Trio Office - a very basic repackaging with a commercial license / freemium like most things distributed on the Microsoft Store Nitro Office - just repackaging as a freeware with some minor cosmetic changes Lotus Symphony - IBM's attempt to not use Microsoft Office NeoOffice - Mac-friendly version with a "dark mode"
#NEOOFFICE VS LIBREOFFICE SOFTWARE#
It's still good software but probably due for retirement and has had some security issues.
#NEOOFFICE VS LIBREOFFICE UPDATE#
Their last update was minor, over a year ago, and 2 years after their previous update. Īpache OpenOffice - Note that this will probably move to the inactive list in the near future. LibreOffice Vanilla - probably to compete with the loads of garbage knock-off versions on Microsoft Store (some mentioned later in this thread), a $10 (USD) version of the above program. I'm especially a fan of the "Still" or enterprise version - it's very stable, has more features and probably the most secure option on this list. Really the only version on this list you should be using.
#NEOOFFICE VS LIBREOFFICE INSTALL#
LibreOffice - The default install on the great majority of Linux distributions, very stable, strong MS Office compatibility (especially creating MS Office files, less so when opening their formats), and lots of speed improvements over previous versions. I keep coming across either outdated or deceptive links to productivity/office tools that are really just some variant on the old StarOffice so I decided to compile a list of variants.
